Reaching the desk and what is worth writing about

The Open Rate Desk is an independent editorial desk that measures one thing: the gap between the State Bank's interbank rate and the open-market rate quoted by money changers. This page explains how to reach the desk, what it can and cannot answer, and how corrections are handled.

What the desk does

The desk reads two named public sources and republishes the figures with the date and hour they were read. The interbank rate is the State Bank's own published figure; the open-market rate is what the money changer's counter quotes. The gap between them is measured, not estimated. Each figure is linked to its publisher so a reader can check it at the source.

The desk is responsible for the publication. It reads the sources, checks the figures, and answers corrections. The desk is not a broker, not an exchange, not a licensed adviser, and it holds no client money. Nothing on the site is investment advice, a recommendation or an offer. The figures describe what things cost, not what a reader should do.

What is worth writing about

A figure that looks wrong is worth writing about. The desk can check it against the named source and correct it if needed. A source that has moved or closed is also worth reporting, because the link under the table may no longer work. A question about how the measurement is taken is welcome; the desk will explain the method.

A correction is handled by dating the correction. The wrong figure is corrected and the correction is dated, so a reader can see when the change was made. The desk does not promise to answer every message, but it reads them. Corrections are the reason the contact address exists.

What the desk cannot answer

The desk cannot answer personal investment advice. It cannot tell a reader whether to buy or sell dollars, or what to do with a broker's account. It cannot help with a broker's account, including FxPro, which is linked on this site. The desk has no access to any broker's systems and cannot resolve account issues.

The desk cannot provide tips. It does not predict rates or suggest trading strategies. The figures are a record of what was published, not a forecast. A reader who needs advice should consult a licensed adviser. The desk is not licensed to give advice and will not do so.

How the desk earns

The site links to one broker, FxPro, through an affiliate link. If a reader opens an account there, the desk is paid a commission. The reader pays nothing to this site and nothing extra at the broker. This is stated plainly here and on the terms page.

The broker's own site is operated by someone else, under its own terms and its own privacy policy. Following the link leaves this site. The desk has no accounts, no login, no newsletter and no comment form. It sets no cookie of its own, runs no analytics and stores nothing in the reader's browser. The pages are served by a hosting provider which keeps its own technical request logs; the desk does not read a reader's personal data out of them.
